1. Are you Fast? An Interview with Fast Company's Alan Webber

Alan Webber of Fast Company magazine is opening keynote at The WBT Executive Summit, http://www.influent.com/wbtes2000, and the WBT Producer Conference, http://www.influent.com/wbt2000. He is the co-founder and Editor of Fast Company, http://www.fastcompany.com , a magazine geared toward competing, working, and succeeding in the new economy. He is the co-author of the book "Going Global: Four Entrepreneurs Map the New World Marketplace" and former Managing Editor of the Harvard Business Review. His columns and articles have appeared in numerous national publications, including the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, The New York Times Sunday Magazine and The Washington Post. Trends caught up with Webber for this e-interview as we count down to the April 26 kickoff of these must-attend industry events.

TRENDS: What is the message you'll be bringing to Summit and Conference?
WEBBER: The good news: the Web and training are at the crossroads of the future. The bad news: the future isn't really about technology or even about training! Stay tuned for more...

TRENDS: What role does WBT (Web-based training) have in enabling new ideas, learning, and managing knowledge?
WEBBER: Done right, it can become a critical competitive resource for companies that compete on ideas -- but the trick is to see the learning through the eyes of the learners.

TRENDS: What are some of the ways individuals can thrive in world of fast development times, fast companies and faster learning?
WEBBER: Know what really matters when it comes to becoming a fast company. Then focus on those few things.

TRENDS: How can life/work balance be found given the frenetic thinking, working, and competing workplaces in which we find ourselves?
WEBBER: It can't be found! You have to create your own definition of success, both personal and professional, and then work hard to make time and room for the things that matter most to you.

TRENDS: What do you see as the biggest challenge, biggest opportunity, for Web-based Training?
WEBBER: Biggest opportunity: becoming a key source of competitive advantage for fast companies. Biggest challenge: figuring out how to get beyond the old mindset of technology and training to become genuinely invaluable to the company's future.

2. Summit at Sundance

Conduit TecKNOWledgy has announced their brand-new Information Technology Training (ITT) Summit at Sundance, Utah on May 15-17. This summit is designed for corporate training managers to address the many issues facing their training departments. The focus is on creating and implementing a strategic plan for transitioning traditional training solutions into a blended approach that incorporates online learning and knowledge management.

Bob Mosher, Conrad Gottfredson, Harvey Feldstein and other industry partners, including Rachel Cheeseman, Executive Director of ITTA, will facilitate this event. It is unique in format that includes a series of eight remote learning events and the two and one-half day summit in Sundance. Bob Mosher says, "the teams who register will help design and tailor the program in two remote events, then create a strategic document at the Summit, and continue their involvement with six post-Summit, remote events."
